Business Risk Associate

About the opportunity

We are seeking a Business Risk Associate to join our team in Berlin. You will be responsible for ensuring risk management policies and practices are lived in the 1 Line of Defense. You will have the unique opportunity to work with key stakeholders across the N26 group that help us mitigate and monitor risk, build and optimize processes, as well as improve the effectiveness of our approach to risk management in the operations organization

In this role, you will:

  • Support the implementation of  policies, procedures, processes and work instructions within the organization.
  • Ensure outsourcing partners are managed in line with MaRisk, BAIT and EBA Outsourcing regulations
  • Lead and coordinate audit, risk and regulatory projects across the C-Level organization.
  • Update and maintain outsourcing contracts between N26 entities and various sub-outsourced partners
  • Assume responsibility for quality assurance, 1 Line of Defense controls and incident management for crucial business processes.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders from the 2 Line of Defense  in order to support the operationalization of frameworks
  • Review and comment policies, procedures, standards, processes and tools developed by the 2 Line of Defense to be implemented and applied across the 1 Line of Defense .
  • Support 1 Line of Defense  stakeholders in the execution of their responsibilities as risk owners
  • Review and challenge relevant information received from the risk owners, ensuring completeness and integrity. 
  • Help to establish a culture of risk and compliance among 1 Line of Defense  stakeholders

What you need to be successful:

Background: 

  • Preferred 2 years work experience in outsourcing, risk management or audit
  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Banking, or related fields. 
  • Experience working in a bank, fintech or associated financial institution

Skills: 

  • Experience managing projects
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a problem solving mindset
  • The ability to build relationships and credibility across the organization; demonstrates managerial courage; leading through influence - not authority
  • Creative thinking skills with emphasis on developing innovative solutions to solve complex problems that may not have one clear answer.
  • You have insight into German Banking laws and are willing to become acquainted with European Banking laws, standard banking requirements as well as banking IT-Systems
  • You enjoy defining, implementing and optimizing complex processes according to the business requirements as the foundation of your work
  • Excellent relationship management, communication and analytical skills required
  • Familiarity with risk management theory and experience in applying risk management concepts
